Opening coach for iPhone and the web
The coach that stops you mid‑game.
Play NRV Coach, who plays like people at your level. The moment you slip in the opening, it stops the game, shows you why on the board, and lets you find the better move yourself.

- Stops you on the moves that matter

- Every capture and threat in the line, on the board.
- Makes you find it
- Hints first, the answer only when you ask.
How it works
Play. Get stopped. Find it.
- 1
Play someone like you
In the opening, NRV Coach plays what people at your level actually play, like this early queen. After that it mixes good moves with the slips real opponents make.
- 2
Get stopped on the moves that matter
Pick what counts: inaccuracies, mistakes, blunders. Here, 3…Nf6?? walks into mate, so the coach pauses the game and draws the reply you missed.
- 3
Find the better move yourself
Hints point at the danger, then the piece, then the move. Here it’s 3…g6, which blocks the attack and hits the queen. Finding it beats being told.

The coach
Explanations that go past one move.
Step through what happens after your move, with every capture and threat called out on the board. Then switch to the better line and see the difference.
Shapes, not just colors
Blue means good and vermilion means danger, and every arrow and mark also has its own shape. It reads the same for color-blind players.
Hints before answers
Try again with hints that narrow it down step by step. Show me plays out what goes wrong, and the better move is one tap away.
Your chances, from your side
See how much a move cost in winning chances, not in engine numbers.
